BIOGRAFIE
SANJA IVEKOVIĆ wurde 1949 in Zagreb, Kroatien, geboren, wo sie von 1968 bis 1971 an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste studierte. Die seit Mitte der 1970er-Jahre entstandenen Fotomontagen, Videos, Performances und Installationen sind von der kritischen Reflexion der Bildpolitik der Massenmedien und deren identitätsstiftendem Potenzial geprägt. Als eine der ersten explizit feministischen Künstlerinnen des ehemaligen Jugoslawiens ist sie auch Initiatorin und Begründerin verschiedenster politischer Frauen-NGOs in Kroatien. Sanja Ivekovićs Werk ist in zahlreichen internationalen Sammlungen vertreten und wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet; im Jahr 2009 erhielt sie den Camera Austria-Preis der Stadt Graz für zeitgenössische Fotografie. Sanja Ivekovic lebt in Zagreb.
BIOGRAPHY
SANJA IVEKOVIĆ was born in 1949 in Zagreb, Croatia, where she studied from 1968 to 1971 at the Academy of Fine Arts. Her photo montages, videos, performances and installations, created from the mid seventies onwards, are influenced by a critical reflection of the picture politics of the mass media and their potential for creating identity. As one of the first explicitly feminist artists of the former Yugoslavia, she is also the initiator and founder of various political women’s NGOs in Croatia. Sanja Iveković’s work is represented in numerous international collections and has won several awards: in 2009 she received the Camera Austria prize for contemporary photography from the town of Graz.
