BIOGRAPHY
ROSA VON PRAUNHEIM, 1942 geb. als Holger Mischwitzky in Riga, Lettland. Aufgewachsen in der DDR; 1953 Flucht und Ubersiedlung nach Frankfurt/M. Verlies vor der Mittleren Reife die Schule, wechselte zur Kunstschule Offenbach fur ein Jahr. Anfang der 1960er-Jahre Studium der Freien Malerei ohne Abschluss. 1967 veröffentlichte er das erste Buch „Die Leidenschaften der Rosa von Praunheim“ und den ersten Kurzfilm „Von Rosa von Praunheim“. 1968 zweiter Kurzfilm „Rosa Arbeiter auf goldener Straße“, der mit Preisen ausgezeichnet wurde. 1970 entstanden drei größere Filme, darunter „Die Bettwurst“ und „Nicht der Homosexuelle ist pervers, sondern die Situation in der er lebt“, mit dem die neue deutsche Schwulenbewegung entstand. Von 2000–2006 lehrte Rosa von Praunheim Regie an der HFF „Konrad Wolf“ in Potsdam. Bis heute umfasst das Werk mehr als 70 Filme. Rosa von Praunheim lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.
BIOGRAPHY
ROSA VON PRAUNHEIM, born Holger Mischwitzky in 1942 in Riga, Latvia. Grew up in the GDR; 1953 flight and emigration to Frankfurt/M. Left school before completing GCSE level education, moved to the Offenbach School of Art for a year. At the beginning of the 1960s studied free-style painting without graduating. 1967 published his first book “Die Leidenschaften der Rosa von Praunheim” [The passions of Rosa von Praunheim] and his first short film “Von Rosa von Praunheim” [Of Rosa von Praunheim]. 1968 second short film “Rosa Arbeiter auf goldener Strase” [Pink Workers on the Golden Street], which received several awards. In 1970 three great films were created, among them “Die Bettwurst” [The Bed Sausage] and “Nicht der Homosexuelle ist pervers, sondern die Situation in der er lebt” [It’s not the Homosexual who is Perverse but the Situation in which he Lives], from which the new German gay movement arose. From 2000–2006 Rosa von Praunheim taught directing at the Potsdam “Konrad Wolf” HFF. His work to date comprises more than 70 films. Rosa von Praunheim lives and works in Berlin.
